Thanks Bluestreak, I was looking at my original post and I don't know if it makes any difference but I put down the wrong first 7 numbers, they should be 3106076.
The other question I have is the last 5 numbers in the vin the number the cars were produced in that year.
The last 5 numbers of my 63 vert are 20838 so it must have been very close to the end?

Reason: I got bluestreak and seaside mixed up
3106076 = 63 & 6076 Corvette built by "3" followed by "106076" VIN in the 63 model year (should match to a Jan 63 assembled 63' Corvette?)
FI2I8RD = Flint (where assembled) December-18 (month & day of engine assembly) RD (300hp). A December 62' engine assembly in a car VIN built in January 63 (good).
3782870 = 327 (used in 62-66 Corvettes)
H-16 = August Casting (H=August). 16 = August 1 1966?
Could the "6" actually be a "2" and the "-" be something else or just casting flash? Could it be an August 62 casting in a January 1963 assembled 63' car)?
The casting flash sometimes makes the numbers hard to read sometimes, so maybe a number or two is off?
It could be an original 63' engine, the sequence of VIN and Flint assembly dates match well.
Thanks 340HP, I obviously am not a numbers guy, but all the recent discussion and my recent purchase of a virgin 63 vert has gotten me interested in the numbers game.
Heres the deal, I purchased my 63 swc in 1970 from the original owner and it was untouched. I had pulled the motor at that time and it is the one with the numbers I put up on the board a few minutes ago. It has been so long ago I couldn't remember for sure if it was the correct engine. So I looked up the vin on my swc and sure enough the last 4 digits are the 6076 which match the numbers on the front of the block.
That does not explain the H-16 which I just went out and looked at again. Also the 9 in the 935 number could be a 8, that might explain why you might think it was built in 66.
I know for sure the swc is a early version because it has tool boxes under the seats and fiberglass headlight buckets.
These numbers are on the back of the block behind the flywheel just to the right of the cam plug.
Those are foundry pattern numbers - don't mean anything in terms of dating/identifying the block. The casting date code is about 4"-6" toward the passenger side from the distributor, visible on the rear bellhousing flange, opposite side from the block casting number.
