Even though it's way too cold to finish my wiring project today, I figured that I'd get the gauge cluster positioned so that it would be ready to go. As usual, I encountered a problem. The car is a 63, gauge cluster is 65. Several months ago, I realized that the new wiring harness(63) would not hook up properly to the gauge cluster's headlight connection. I ordered a 63 headlight switch. It plugs in to the new harness perfectly. My problem is how can I remove the old one from the back of the gauge cluster? The actual switch is gone, what's left is the flat bracket that holds the switch housing. I'm afraid to force it. With my luck, I'll break the back of the gauge cluster. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's supposed to hit 30 tomorrow. Maybe I'll try to finish it.
Did you remove the big chrome round nut on the front of the instrument housing? That nut holds the switch assembly to the housing, on my 62, 65, and even my 56 Olds. I would assume it would be the same on your car.
Thanks for your help 62Jeff. That appears to be the problem. Couldn't get it on the first try. I think that i need a screw driver with a bigger head. I'll try later. Thanks again.

If you are very careful (I do it this way) you can use a pair of needle nose pliers. Open up the pliers so that one of the 2 ends of the "nose" are each in one of the slots, then twist.
