Default C1 Differential Decoding

I just bought a '57 and the differental has a coding of "AB 1130" on the front right side. I know it is not original but would like to now the original ratio and what it came out of. Anyone has reference manual?

Thanks.. Pierre

1130 = November 30

AB = not a corvette code: "AP" is a 4.11 posi with a manual trans

Check again just to make sure.

I didn't expect that it would be a Corvette code but probably from a full size chev.

That AB code on 55-59 (passenger car) rears was a standard code for a NON-posi rear behind an auto tranny car. The gear used for 55-6 pass cars with an auto tranny (PG) was a 3.55. The 57-59 cars with an auto tranny (PG, TG) got a 3.36 gear.
As already pointed out, the 1130 tanslates to Nov 30 (that's the ASSEMBLY date). Over on the other side, there should be a letter and some numbers cast into the case near the casting number of the case. This will be the CASTING date.
So, if your rear is from a 55-6 pass car, it would have originally had a 3.55 ratio. If it came from a 57-59 car it would have originally had a 3.36 ratio.

Thanks Tom. That's good info.
