Default 64 corvette vin

I recently purchased a 64 coupe thinking that it was not numbers matching but after closer review the motor fits the application. The vin has been re-assigned by Florida dmv for some reason. Since the last six of the vin is on the block pad and we know that the first six is always 40837s how do I research the original vin # or reason for re-assignment?

You will probably have to contact the state that reassigned the vin number. They will have that info on file. To see if you vin on the engine matches the car, you can look for the vin number on the frame and see if you have a match.

Default vin

Take off the rear drivers side wheel. Can be located on the drivers side top of frame .What you might have to do clean the area .Then get a mechanichs mirror and look for it.Some are found easy others it takes time.Bob W

Florida assigns a new VIN if a car has been stolen and recovered at some time in the past. Generally they do not change the entire VIN, rather the VIN will read FLAS1XXXXXCH. The x's should be the original number from the factory. The 2 letter suffix also may be different from car to car. It is possible to change the VIN back to the original in most states once you have determined what it is.

You guys are great but this is bad news for my matching # car. I found the frame # and it is S122016. The florida vin is FLA4S122016CH and the motor is 4119743 bummer!!!!
