I plan on finally getting side exhaust once I get back in country and wondered how difficult it is to install on a 65 Vert? Is it a standard bolt up procedure or is there more to it? I heard of possible cutting in the body involved and if this was true was wondering if anyone had pics of what/where to cut?
Yes, you must cut the rocker panel fiberglass in order to allow the side pipes to clear. The page from the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) that depicts this, is below

What about the rocker molding brackets that hang down, it is not clear what to do with those - bend them back or cut them off. The only reason I would perfer to bend them back is in case i want to go back to under the car exhaust. Just wondering as I'm in the process of doing this shortly.

On mine I only had to cut the front tab off the body. The rear was a non-issue. I also had to cut my tabs off. I bent them as far as possible and they still hit. Just mark and cut them and weld back on later.Originally Posted by mredi1

I bent my brackets out of the way for the same reason; someone might want to take it back some day.
The rear mounting bracket on each of your new pipes will have to be bent parallel to the angle of the frame at each rear mounting point. I was afraid they might break off, but nothing bad happened and it made securing them a piece of cake.

As I recall, it was less than three inches but more than two. You'll know when you loosely connect the down pipe to the exhaust manifold and hold it next to the bottom part of the wheel well.
Sure, cutting Nassau Blue fiberglass was traumatic, but it isn't precision surgery and the replacement rocker panel cover will hide any mistake you might make.
I installed the last set with no proublems,My set came from ALANS exhaust systems. The set comes with instructions.I installed the low noise type on a 390HP BB you can drive with the top down and still hear after your drive.

How long of a job is this going to be for someone who's never dont the side exhaust thing? Other than cutting the tab is it basically unbolt/bolt up?
The motor is a 350 with manifolds. Do the kits from Allens or anywhere else just "bolt up" or will there be cutting and welding involved with the pipe in order to get it to fit 100%?
And regarding baffle size, sound etc I don't know what to get. What is mellow to someone else might be loud to another. My 57 had 2 chamber flowmasters with 3" exhaust and sounded sick at WOT. On the other hand, I hate cars that sound like they are all glasspack and not *****. I also plan on putting a 400+ hp motor in within the next year and want to get side exhasut that will support 400+ hp.
Thanks..
