My 64 coupe has less than 2500 miles on it since 2001. One of my big projects is to get the old fuel all cleaned out and I am on my 5th or 6th tank of new gas after running high octane, seafoam, etc.
In the process, I have had the carb rebuilt, put in a few plastic see-through fuel filters (to see exactly how bad the line was dirt wise), and replaced all flexible hoses.
Now for the question: Should the fuel filter always be full of gas or would it vary? I ask because I found that the flexible line from the hard line to the fuel pump was sucking air due to somebody else's crappy workmanship. I could understand how that might change the level. The only thing I could change is the fuel pump. I guess I always assumed that the fuel filter was full. I have never had a see thru filter so I never thought much about it.
Thanks for your input.
I have seen it all over the place. Tonight it was barely had any gas in it. Upon starting it and revving a few times, it was half full. I forgot to mention that the filter is currently laying on it side with the inlet/outlet horizontal to the ground.
I was even thinking that maybe there was something wrong with the fuel pump and gas was somehow draining into the block due to a diaphragm problem. I do smell gas.
My filter is vertical, and has anywhere from half to very little if it sits for more than a week. It's in the garage right now so I can start is, but maybe tomorrow. If so I'll look at the filter. Dennis
