Default C2 Engine Mounting Brackets-Dimensions Needed

If anyone has their engine out of the car, could you measure between the bolt holes in the engine mounting brackets, as shown in the pic below? None of my frame charts show this.

I'm also wondering if anyone has any information as to the the height of the holes vertically down to the datum line. In the illustration below you can see that the gauge hole is 16" from the datum line. It was suggested to me that the gauge hole was the same dimension as the engine mounting brackets. I posed this question to the people that make reproduction frames, and was told that " this is proprietery information ".

Well, after 12 hours, my post is buried on page 2. Rather than a shameless TTT, I will offer some entertainment. Enjoy.

Stay tuned. More to follow.

Not scientific but the lowest points are 16 1/8" and the highest points are 16 7/8".

They are slots and not round so I didn't know what you wanted............

Let me know if you want better information.

knight37128.....thanks for the help. If you could insert a bolt in each hole, and measure across from center to center, that would give me a better measurement to work with. I would imagine that this dimension would be the same on C3's as well, in case anyone has the dimensions for those. Thanks again.

My car is on a frame lift. I can measure from the floor to the gauge hole and floor to motor mount bolt if that's close enough for your needs.

I had to fabricate custom engine mounts for my C-4 conversion chassis and my engine is currently on the stand. So. I can have the center to center number for you tomorrow. My height measurement will not apply to your application though. I am curious why you need these numbers ?

Well, when I got the body off the frame I found a lot of damage and took it to a frame shop. They had a hard time trying to straighten it because of the strength of the boxed rail frame, but they did the best they could. So I took it home and assembled the suspension. When I went to drop the motor in.......no go. I discovered that the passenger side mounting bracket hole is 3/4" higher than the drivers side. So, now I have to modify the bracket to get the engine to fit right. The frame shop has no data on these measurements.

My 65 frame measured 16 1/2" width center to center. As previously noted the bolt holes are elongated but, that is a pretty close measure. Is the bottom of the front crossmember bent up and pulling the mounts out of alignment? I will look in the assembly manual to see if it gives more exact measurements.

I scaled between the motor mount holes on a block with mounts on it. 16 1/2". I ran an undersized pin through the gauge hole on both sides of the frame. It's tough to be accurate but I'd say the center of the guage hole and the center of the motor mount through bolt are on the same center, +/- 1/8".

I can't understand why that frame shop can't get that dimension.

Thankyou all for the measurements, this will give us a place to start. I should probably search out the companies that make the frame staightening equipment because I'm sure this information must have been available at some time.

If there is hood clearance, 66 BB cars used engine mount shims (1/8 thick I believe) to get the pulley off the frame. A few of those may help.

The engine is offset over an inch to the passenger side, which should require a taller mount on the driver side.

Sorry for the delay. The center to center is 16.5 in. The offset is 1.75 in. And both mounts should be LEVEL ! I made a simple jig for my mounts and the bolts were 1.25 in from the top surface of the frame, but I don't know if this measurement will apply to your frame. My frame was cut off a few inches back from the mounts for the C-4 conversion.I have had a 454 in my frame with side mount headers and they fit perfectly. The motor mounts are the same from side to side. Good luck, Pops
