Default Hedman Side Exhaust Headers

Been thinking of going with some headers for my side exhaust setup. These look pretty good, anyone have any experience with them?

My buddy runs those. 4 inch tubes all the way down the side, turn outs with traps. Sounds good, makes good power. looks cool.

I put a set of these on 30 years ago. They matched up to the factory sidepipes perfectly.

I put a set on my SB about 15 years ago, no existing troubles. I did have to put a torque strap on the motor since the driver side collector flange was super close to the frame. Dennis

Got 'em on my sbc, just had to make a small elbow to hook to the side pipes. No problems.

I used them (Hedman #68280) when I built my Grand Sport ten years ago, into 4" sidepipes.

You could always send them to Jet-Hot and have them coated as a cost effective means of having them look better.

I've had hedmans on my car for 20 yrs with no problems, however the 13/4" primaries are a little small for the 502. I'm using them now but wish they made a set with 17/8" or 2" with the proper flange to work better with the heads on the 502. I do recommend that you do have them coated. Mine were done by JetHot and have held up well.
Good luck
Russ

Russ,
Am putting 502 in my 66. Does the factory side pipes bolt right up to the headmans or is there other mods that must be done? What has to be done to the mounting flange to make them work properly? Any advice would be appreciated as I have not purchased them yet.

Thanks in advance,
Sting1

Sting 1, you need a reducer from the collector to your side pipe. Jegs or Summit sell these. You will need a 3" to the size of your side pipe. Cut your side pipe and weld in the reducer so it bolts up to the collector. Fire up your engine and go and have some fun
Russ
ps. You may need to grind the header flange to create clearance for a few head bolts at the rear of the head. You'll see what I mean when you try to bolt the header to the head. No big deal, just a small modification.

Sting,

Do you already have your 502? I'm shopping for the best price on a ZZ502 for my 65 coupe. Have you seen threads or information on a 502 install?

I'm subscribing to this thread because I also have factory side exhaust and want to keep the look.
