Default Radiator Core Support Mounting

Hey guys does the radiator core support bolt to the frame horns on each side? It appears so in my assembly manual.

My 59 has a 72 Nova subframe and the frame horns are a good bit wider than on an original C-1 frame, and I do not have a core support yet so I'm sort of spinning my wheels trying to figure this out.

Thanks, Doug

on my 62, which i presume is the same as a 59, the core support bolts to the inner fender panels on the sides and the support is supported on the bottom by the front of the 3rd arm bracket.

It sounds like a problem, but a solution would be for you to fabricate a mount from the center of your cross member forward to mount your rad support to. The rad support boltds down to the front of the third arm bracket on original frame cars. It sounds like you will need to replicate that mounting point on your sub frame if you are going to use an original rad support.

Here is a link to a picture of an aftermarket frame that has the core support mount welded to the side rails. Keep in mind that this frame does not use the stock C1 suspension.

Also keep in mind that proper core support position is critical for hood alignment.

Call Jim Meyers Racing and order this part. It is the radiator mount/support.

Look in this manual for what it is called:
http://jimmeyerracing.com/instructions/Corvette.pdf

Here is a photo of it installed on my '60 frame. t bolts right to the existing frame front suspension bolts!

I am not sure what is different in the frames, but this is my 1960 frame with Myers pieces on it.

good luck!!!

Thanks for the ideas, comments, and photos.

The guy who had the car before me did some fabrication work on the front center of the Nova subframe for the core support to mount to (two bolt holes about 4 inches apart). I hope he has the holes placed correctly.

Later today I'm going over to a friends house to look at his 60. He made his core support out of a donor from some other GM car, but used an original support for a pattern....the guy is a wizard at fabrication.
