Default head lights

The left headlight on my 66 used to be slow ,now it does not go up.Where should I start? Can I take out the motor without taking out the headlight assembly? I assume I have to remove hood to get to motor. I have the instructions for taking apart the motor.
Thanks for any help. Don

No need to remove assembly.
Open hood. Put a pin in the support so it does not fall on you.
Reach in between the hood and the nose, feel to the end of the motor and unplug it. There is a "tang" to depress, then pull.
Remove the support with a 5/16 socket and ratchet.
Remove the horseshoe clip.
Pull the motor off the shaft.
After the motor is off the shaft it WILL slide through the opening between the hood and the nose. Sometimes by turning it a qarter turn as it is coming out. Also, if you have a helper, have them lift the hood a little further than just sitting on the support for clearance.
Should take about 5 minutes.
