Default Door Alignment On C1

I am restoring a 1960 and the driver's door is giving me fits on alignment. I can get it aligned flush with the body and the gap looks OK at the front fender - but the gap is too big at the rear quarter. It is about 3/16" wide at the bottom and 1/2" wide at the top. I've tried loosening some body mounts and adjusting shims, etc. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

I hope there will be some responses to this question. I had a guy replace the hinges on the passenger door of my 60. Now the fit is way off even though the door works better. I hope there is a way to make adjustments without compromising the hinges. Anyone????

You may need to add some extra shims on the body mounts at the trunk area of the car. (Exaust tube area) We took the body off our 59 resto and put it on a dolly and noticed that the gap at the top of the doors and the console was opening up and that the passenger door would not shut properly. Added a few shims at the rear trunk mounts and it helped both issues. We are going back with the original hinges as they seem to be in fine shape. Only tip I can give since this is what we ran into upon body removal.

I believe that the C1 service manual ST-12 has some info in it for door adjustment. You might check there.

Default Gap

I had the same problem when putting my doors back on. You can get some adjustment with the hinges in the front. If you start adding shims in the rear you are going to have one end higher than the other and you are going to risk cracking the body at the mounting positions. You can also elongate the hinges inside the door for more adjustment,no one will ever know but you.Or you could add fiberglass to the area in the back and shape it to the door.Any way you look at it,it will require some effort to make them fit correctly. Also make sure you fit the doors with all the lock mechinism in place.
