Once again, 10 minutes in to my re-wiring project and I encounter a problem. I trying to replace bulbs and make sure that everything is positioned right before I mount the gauge cluster. There are two wires with round connectors on them. The diagram says that they are circuit breaker connectors. I can't see what they connect to. I don't want to mount the cluster until I'm sure that everything is right. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also FYI I stopped at the dealer where I bought my car yesterday. A guy was picking up a 66 coupe small block, automatic with air, sidepipes and repo-knockoffs. Very nice car. He paid $60. I thought an automatic might go for less. I guess that they have their own separate market.
On my 65, there is a small silver box that snaps into a bracket above the left kick panel. This is the headlight motor relay, and has to large gauge red wires that connect to it.
See the area circled in red. This was taken as I was removing my old harness in my 65
I have a better picture of the relay, if you don't find it attached to your old harness. Basically though it's just a small metal box, maybe 1.25" long by 3/4" deep.
I found it in the old harness. It only took a few minutes to put it in. I'd really like to meet the previous owner of the car. Things that shouldn't be a problem are a pain in the butt. The wires leading to the courtesy lights in the door jam were cut. It took me about 45 min.to get the switch out of the jams and to hook up the new wires. It doesn't help that I have stubby arthritic fingers. I think I'll switch gears and button up the rear harness. It's all in, I just have to replace the valance under the bumper. Thanks so much for your help. It's bright and sunny out, I wish I was riding instead of repairing.
If you can't find your old one, you can get a new one at any auto supply. It is a 40 amp circuit breaker. If it is 40 years old it probably wouldn't hurt to replace it.
