Default Difference Between DS / PS Mirror?

We're the Drivers Side and Passenger Side Mirrors interchangable? Was it just different mounting hardware, but the same mirror? The DS has a set screw on the top, should the PS have a set screw on the top as well - or if it's the same mirror now it's on the bottom?

I know most of you don't have a PS Mirror, but I'm hoping somebody will know.

Thanks - Nick

The PS was not a factory installed option. It was a dealer installed accessory. Most people do not have a PS because of this. Because there really was no PS, I believe that the PS mirror is the same as the DS.
This has been discussed much in the past. Check the archives.

I believe they are interchangeable but the set screw on the passenger side will be on the bottom. Mine (Corvette aftermarket) is designed for the passenger side and the screw is on the top.

Passenger mirror with set screw up on the right.

Default Thanks Paul ...

Thanks Paul - That's exactly what I was looking for! So the correct mirror would have the set screw on the top just as the DS does.

I searched for it, but never came across anything talking about the set screws.

Thanks for the help Paul - Nick

Corvette America has that passenger mirror. With the blind spots on a coupe it is very useful.

the point that was made above is that there is no "correct" mirror for the P-side - it is as correct as you think it is. If trying to match up with what a dealer might have installed on a customer's C2 back in the day, I'd venture to guess that the "correct" C2 D-side mirror, installed on the P-side, would be what was most often done.

I understand that it is not "correct" as it would never have come out of the factory.

I found a perfect side view mirror at a garage sale for $15 and picked it up. I have kicked around the idea of having a PS mirror since I have to wedge my car into the garage to keep it away from the wife's SUV. Since it was cheap, I bought it and now I'm trying to figure out if I could use it on the PS if I decided to. It didn't come with any of the mounting brackets, so I would need to buy those anyway. I was just trying to figure out if I bought a DS or PS mirror, that's all. With so few to look at, it's not as easy as you would think ...

Paul - You were very helpful, thanks.

ctjackster - You brought up a very interesting point about what was done back then. I had never thought about it that way, instead trying to figure out what the "correct" aftermarket part was. Considering that GM never intended to have a PS mirror I would guess that you are correct in saying that they put DS mirrors on both sides.

Thanks for the help - Nick
