Default 1960 Engine Stamp

In 1960 they started stamping the serial number of the car on the engine. When did they start doing that? What is the earliest serial number found with the engine stamped? Does anyone have a picture that they could send me.. I have s/n 100542 and it's not stamped but I also have #5257 and it's stamped with serial number. thanks.

Earlier than that, my #2845 was stamped. Early stampings were made without the use of gang stampers, and were pretty ugly!

Some respected folks on the ncrs board claim to have witnessed hand stamps on as early as October '59 built cars.
