I would like to remove the driveshaft with the transmission and differential in place. I can get to the rear universal with no problem, but how do you disconnect the universal at the transmission with no U joints?
If you have the car on jack stands you should be able to see the rear universal, straps and nuts. There is not much room but an opened end 1/2 in spanner should do the trick.

Jim; There is a u joint on the back of the Trany I had to cut down a 1/2inch box end wrench to get the nuts off the straps. Then push the yoke into the trany to clear the back yoke and take it out that way. Good Luck
66BBDriver, will have to take another look then. I saw the universal and there were no U joints on it, but I am getting old and some things get by me! Wiill let you know and thanks for the assist!
I have seen people replace the trany yoke that does not have the "U" bolts. The Universal joint is pressed into both the yoke and driveshaft. So to remove the driveshaft you have to remove the "U" bolts at the rear and slide the driveshaft and trany yoke into the trany then drop the rear down to remove the driveshaft with front trany yoke attached. Be aware that the grease will flow onto the ground Have a catch pan available. Good Luck

You should have a transmission yoke that looks similar to this:
If you have one like this:
Then you have a real problem. Someone put the driveshaft in with a) the body off, b) the engine/transmission out, or c) the rear end out.
The way I'd do it if you have the second is remove the rear end front mount, and see if you can get enough clearance by pulling the nose down to get the driveshaft back enough to get the yoke out of the transmission. Then slide it forward past the transmission.
If that didn't work, I'd drop the rear end, as it is easier than the engine/transmission.
Or find the idiot that put it in and let him get it out.
