Default Original 63 wheel width?

Hey guys, a friend of mine just purchased a 63 vert. and wants to put the original size wheels on it. I do not have the specs on a 63 as my stuff is C-1 so we were wondering what the width of the originals are. I believe that they are 15 inch and I have a set of 15x5 with the 3 rivets that are not correct for my year that may work on his car if they are the right size. This is his first old vette so he is all new to this. He just doesn't know what he is in for!!!! Thanks for any help to this question.

standard steel wheel for the 1963/64 is 15 x 5 1/2 inches wide; the wheels have a unique "conical step" appearance on the reverse; all wheels are welded not riveted

That's what we needed to know. The one's I have were sold as replacements over the counter so they are not original but. If the size would work he was going to run them on his car since it is a driver. I thought they might have went to a 5 1/2 by then but was not sure so he will have to keep looking. Thanks for the info.

Correct 1963/64 steel wheels are very expensive. You can probably pick up a set of 15x6 for a ton cheaper and they will do the job.

KO wheels were 6", so you can legally run 6" wheels on any 63.

Just sold a set of four 64 correct Kelsey Hayes logo & dated 15 x 5 1/2 for $1,100. Buyer was very happy to get them. Had the dimples at the valve stem.
