Default 66 Rear spring

I'm working on the rear spring of the 66 that I am doing. bought new cushings and all that and have it a part fixin to paint. I know that the spring is supposed to be gray but how about the two straps. gray or black which is correct? Thanks, Paintbug

new spring? if those straps you're talking about are the small ones around the leaves, they are only there for shipping. They should be removed. hope that helps.

No they are the old springs. I've taken them a part and going to repaint them gray with new cushings. Thier is a srap on each side. don't know if they are supposed to be black or gray?

If it has straps it is a replacement spring. Not original to the car.

No straps, ever; they're only found on reproduction springs, and aren't needed after the spring is installed.

go to corvette central and type in 582056 for the replacement leaf spring. look at the pic for the spring. does yours have those two straps on either end? if so, it is a replacement. those straps are supposed to be removed after installation.

Also, don't fit the 'cushing' (correct term = liner) between the 6th and 7th leaf as counted from the bottom (lonest) leaf. This is the same whether your spring is 7-leaf (F41 heavy duty) or 9-leaf (standard). Best Regards, Gary (Perth, Australia).
