Default Replacing radio *****, etc

Curious how folks handle replacing the radio and various ***** on the interior. I understand there is only one repro shop for all the *****. I ordered one for my radio a while back from Ecklers and it looked similar to the original but different. The main difference is the black center is shiny plastic. All my ***** are getting well work, thinking about replacing all of them with the new versions.

Not that I am planning an NCRS car but at close to $200 for the set, I want something that looks pretty original.

Will the new ones pass NCRS muster?

If not, what do you do for replacements?

Does anyone restore them? On mine the chrome is starting to flake off.

I recently purchased a couple of reproduction ***** for my '65 from Corvette Central (their ***** originally come from Corvette America). I was very disappointed in the quality of the reproductions and ended up replacing them with some used originals from eBay.

Yea, you can't replace one or two, you need to do them all to look close to correct.

Interesting the NCRS judge did not even look at them on Nowhere's car. Some of the things I have read that need to be done to flight sound like they would have noticed this. Still curious what other's think.

If you're looking for ***** for a mid-year, here's a suggestion. Before you buy any expensive repro *****, take one of your originals and walk through a couple of pick-your-own-parts wrecking yards and look at the ***** in early 1960's Chevy II's, Novas, Chevelles, and full size Chevys. When I restored a '65 roadster a few years back, I discovered that mid-year Corvettes used ***** that were identical to regular Chevy vehicles of prior years......like they used surplus parts from prior years. And they were a whole lot cheaper. At that time, used ***** from a Corvette used parts dealer were going to cost me about $25 each......and I was able to get more than a full set of good looking ***** off a couple of junk cars for about $2 total.

If you want exact duplicates, you have to look them over very carefully, because each year they were a little different. As I remember, the '64 Nova or Chevelle ***** were like identical to the '65 Corvette *****.....or something like that.
