A friend of mine just purchased a matching numbers 67 Vette with a 327/300 HP. We're looking to restore to original so can you tell me what's wrong with the engine pics below and what color parts should be? Yes, we're removed the ignition shields. Thanks, Rod
Well, since I'm first in the the thread, I'll pick off the easy ones.
That isn't a 350 motor. Well, it might be, but it has a bunch of the wrong parts on it. It has a painted intake (300 horse only) and the red painted raised letter valve covers (300 horse only).
Check the stamp pad on the engine. If it is a 350 horse, it should say either HT, HD, HP, or KH.
If it is a 300 horse, it will say either HE, HH, HO, HR, or HP.
From your picture, the intake manifold has a casting number of 3872783, which is for the 300 horse 327.

Sorry my mistake I corrected in my original post, it is a 300hp. Thanks for pointing out my error. Rod

If you are going the NCRS route. Purchase their judging guide and signup for a membership. Some parts need plated, various sheens for the paint of many parts, etc...If you just want to get a little close to original appearance. Maybe we can help.
Also, JohnZ, has some nice photo's of his 300 h.p. '67.
as mentioned, get a '67 NCRS judging guide - that will be your "bible" for part colors, finish, etc.
If you are after NCRS "correctness" you need dated ignition wires, also as mentioned the carb looks incorrect.
Most items under the hood that are black should be semi-gloss.
BTW, it looks like the exhaust is coming off the exhaust manifold in the last pic - the flage is down and the stud is out of it with no nut
As everyone has pointed out you really need a judging guide if you want to head into the NCRS direction. Even if you don't your friend will learn more about the car just reading the book.
Also, join NCRS and download the judging sheets as they also help in the process. The NCRS board has several fine books that will cover what your looking for and save you $$$$$ from buying / restoring the wrong part.
Looks like joining the NCRS and purchasing the Technical and Judging manual is the best place to start. The engine is in the process of being removed so the exhaust and other parts have been removed or disconnected.
There shouldn't be a clamp on the hose at the vacuum advance can.
The PCV hose shown with a PCV valve and 90* fitting at the intake behind the carb isn't correct; there should be a threaded PCV valve screwed into the bung on the oil fill tube, with a hose to the nipple on the side of the carb that has a plastic cap on it. The intake should just have a square-head iron plug in that hole.
The carburetor is incorrect - it should be a 3810 with non-adjustable floats.
First, thanks to all that recommended purchasing the NCRS Technical and Judging manual. We now have one in our hands and are comparing what we have vs. what we should have. At first glance there will be parts to be purchased. JohnZ thanks for the pics, very helpful.
Second, the engine & tranny will be pulled in the next couple of weeks so that we can clean the engine and engine bay, what are your recommendations for the proper "Chevy Orange" paint for the engine and semi-gloss for the engine bay?
Third, based on the JohnZ pics there are stickers on the valve covers, where can these stickers and all other engine bay stickers be purchased?
I prefer the Chevy Orange paint from Quanta (www.quantaproducts.com) - it's not as glossy as most of the other Chevy Orange spray paints. Labels and stickers are available from Long Island Corvette Supply.
