I have got 62 doortrims in my 59 but believe the doors to be original.
Are there any differences with regards to winder, lock and latching positions.
Basicaly I want to replace the doortrims with 59 trims but need to confirm that they are 59 doors and not 62.
I don't believe that there are differences but would like this confirmed as the cost of 59 complete trims are real expensive and by the time I get them over here in Australia they're triple the price.
59-61 door trim is the same, only the stainless is different. The 62 door uses a smaller arm rest, therefore only two screws holding it to the door, the 59-61 arm rest uses three. I had this trouble with my 61, someone put a 62 door on mine, and ground the beading of on the outside and put the stainless on. I had a hell of a time with the two front armrest screw holes. The other thing with 61-62 doors, are that they are longer on the outside by 1". If you want to see it, go to photopoint.com, then type in jefish@redconnect.net.
Take note of the white 61 door, look at the distance between the two screw holes under the door handle. The 62 ones are much furture apart.
My '61 had a 2hole armrest door on the passenger side. The previous owner had brazed a screw together to at least put two screws in it. I'm not sure what year door it is, but to fit the new door panels on my '61 I had to replace the interior lock mechanism. The shaft was about 1/4 too short to put the **** on. Other than that and the armrest, I noticed no difference in the door panel layout from the drivers door (which I assume is an original '61 - I hope)
I am building a '59 but have '58 doors. all the research i find shows that the '58 year is the only odd ball year as far as where the door mechanisms are located. "58 parts , naturally, are the most expensive. The 61/62/ doors are different on the outside as they had no cove trim. On the inside they should be the same as the '59. :hat
Just so you'll know, Al Knoch will use '59 fabric on '58 door trims for a small extra charge, if you want. I did it for my interior because I like the color from '59-'60 better.
