Default Date coding on a 2818-1

When I bought my '68 a few years ago, the 327 came with a Holley 2818-1 carburetor on it. The date code is 744 which says it was built the 4th week of April, 1967. I've been trying to find a reference somewhere that would tell me what this carb would have been used on. Everything I'm finding on '68 Corvette smallblocks say it comes with a Rochester, so I know it's not original to mine. Anybody have any ideas?

I did a forum search on 2818 and the only hits I got were from the C1-C2 side of the house so I thought I'd come over here and gain from your wisdom. Let it rain upon me, but be gentle. Thanks,

Originally '64 used 2818. The -1 was original '65 and service for '64. The '64 carbs without the -1 are hard to come by and expensive.

Yeah, I'll be selling it. I'm pretty much done with my '68 so am ready to start cleaning out unneeded parts. It's it in the box that my Street Avenger came in. I never tried to run the engine after I bought the car, but the carb did have old fuel in it so it hadn't dried inside the bowls. I dumped it all out the vent tubes. It's a pretty good bet it will need a rebuild but from what I recall, the finish was fairly good on it. I haven't seen it in over a year now. I'm out of town for the next week but will get it out, take a few pics and PM you when I return. I'll also need to poke around and see what the value is....am sure you have some thoughts on that . I'll be in touch. Thanks!

It's a service replacement 2818 and won't be date-correct for either the '64 or '65 application, but that's only an 8-point deduction; other than judging, nobody would know the difference.

Excellent! Mine is a very low optioned base engine smallblock and was too far from original when I bought it to be worth going down that road. I've done a resto-mod thing so all my judging comes from folks on the sidewalks and most of the 'points' I get are from their kids. I would have had no idea how big a deal it was to have the wrong date code. Having a '68 with a ton of 1 year only parts, I can appreciate a good parts search challenge. I hoped this carb might be useful to someone who is going original...glad it may make somebody happy.
