My 66 has repro (older) knock off wheels that are currently balanced with stick on weights. I was wondering if they can be balanced with standard weights instead. The adhesive is drying out and the weights are starting to come loose.
That's correct - the original KO wheels used special weights, and they were only to be applied to the inside flange of the rim; the rim flange section is different on the reproduction wheels, and won't accept either the special weights or the standard production weights. Clean the wheel surface thoroughly with brake cleaner after determining where the weight needs to go, use new adhesive weights, then cover them with duct tape to protect them from water, oil, etc.
FYI, I found some "standard style" weights that fit late model alloy wheels that worked perfectly on my knock offs. They can be recognized by the light grey coating they have on them to match alloy wheels and their rectangular shape. Used a Snap On machine set for static balance and put the weights on the inside.

Yeah, I just bought a set of wheels/tires that were balanced with clip on weights. Maybe something new?
