Default jacking on tranny

I need to install the center exhaust hanger on my 64. Exhaust was in with no bracket when I bought the car 2 years ago. It looks like I will need to support the tranny and maybe remove the tranny mount to install the bracket. Is there any certain spot I should jack on the tranny? How much can I go up with the transmission once the bolts are out? If I can get it up an inch or two I may be able to slip the bracket in without removing the mount. I think I will use a bottle jack with a hockey puck on top for a cushion. Any suggestion are appreciated Thank for all the help. you guy are great!

Dunno if it will go up that far without hitting the floor.

IMO otherwise go ahead. I'd jack at the main housing to tail housing area (where the two bolt together)

A Pine 2x4 shorty would be a better cushion as it will give a little broader lft surface as it gives. JMHO Al W.

I too, have always used a piece of pine ,as a non-marring support ,between the jack and whatever. It also helps distribute the load bearing as well gives a broader surface incase of a "twist". Try to stay away from plywood. Do not use masonary blocks of any kind, including bricks.

Craig, Use the wood as stated above and I think it will go high enough to get the hanger in.
Good luck

I just had to do this yesterday on my 69. Was a little more work than I thought it would be. I used a small 2x4 with just a regular floor jack to raise the tranny a little bit After removing the mount I still did not have enough clearance to put the bracket up there so I had to remove the pipes at the exh manifold and pull them down some so the bracket would have enough room to fit.
