Default backup light harness

I have a 66 vert with factory a/c. The prevous owner replaced the wiring harness behind the dash. The only thing missing is the plug for the backup lights coming from the firewall to the switch on the transmission. I have the engine out of the car now and this plug is missing. Did this come out of the firewall harness next to the wiper motor or from the engine harness on driver side fender well? If it comes from the dash harness where would it be behind dash? ANY PICTURES?

The wires come out of the firewall with the wiper motor wires, and is part of the dash harness, not the engine harness.

In 1965 the backup lights were optional, I think they were standard in 1966. I suppose it is possible the previous owner put a dash harness from a 65, without backup lights, in your car.

A picture of the connector is circled in red. The right half of the connector is the male connector and is part of the dash harness, the left half of the connector is female and is part of the wires that run to the transmission.

The dash harness has a sticker reading Main 66 A/C harness. I can't find it under the dash. Could be a 65. I receive the picture from you on the A/C resistor switch the other day. I believe 65 and 66 have different color of wires on the plug in. My had yellow, light blue, and I think a dark blue wires.

Then I'd trust that the harness is the correct one for your car.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

See photo below. You'll have a pink and a light green wire terminating in a double connector on the dash harness; it comes through the firewall grommet with the wiper motor wiring, and connects to the mating connector on the end of the pigtail harness that comes up from the backup light switch on the transmission.

I doesn't have it coming out of the firewall. Does any one know where it starts on the main harness behind the dash?

The backup light wires are in a group of 8 wires taped together that come off the main dash harness. They are taped together from where they come off the harness to just before, after, or at the firewall grommet. The other wires in the group go to the wipers and ballast resistor. With your motor out, it should be pretty easy to pop the firewall grommet. Trace back the loose wires that are coming through the firewall. By the time you reach the point where they are taped together, you will have found the backup light wires. The two wires [light green and pink with the connector attached] are probably hanging just behind the firewall.
