I see that QTP is one of the sponsors under headers. I just read a thread with guys running without exhaust to the muffler shop but have never read anyone using QTP cutouts. I have had them on for a couple of years and although they don't sound quite as good as tuned headers with a collector they do make a bit of noise if that is what you like. I went to a local show yesterday and opened them up when I left. The guy I was with has a healthy SS427 Impala and we put set on his. He runs his open most of the time. Although we have both run past the police with them wide open I would not make a steady diet of it. They open in about 3 seconds and close in the same. The wife is not overly fond of them but I open them up especially in the country when I want to stretch my legs. I'm going with the biggest set I can get for my big block project. Anyone else running them?-Jim
I've got them on our 66 Big Block. It"s the only way to reduce backpressure when your running headers and sidepipes. We love the sound especially at car shows when you go from sidepipes to open exhaust.
This is a question more than comment but it sounds like the people on this thread would know.
I am in the process of putting my car back on the road after alot of years sitting in the garage. Part of this is a new exhaust. I have all the pipes and headers etc. but will need a shop to make a couple small bends and welds. So my question....If I go slow do you think I can get away with drive the car with the headers open 5 miles through town to get to the shop? I would rather driver than have it towed but I don't need a ticket especially since that would probalby lead to alot of other fix it stuff I am going to do but not with in the 30 day fixit ticket limit.
I have to admit I have never driven a car with open exhausts so my only expereince with the sound level is open header contests where of course the whole point is to be as loud as possible.
i did it.... if you behave yourself, you should have no problems...
i had the muffler shop make these temporary 'dumps' for me so i could get the exhaust/flames below the car for the drive over... (i've already set the car on fire once, and once was enough...)

I'm not so sure anyone on this forum can guarantee you wont get a ticket but I have run open headers and the cutouts I have now more than a few times. Last year the guy with the 427 Impala and I had our pipes wide open and we were running thru town with a guy with a blown big block pickup that is just about as loud and we were stopped at a light right across from the local police. I ran into the same cop later and asked him about it and he said he saw us come into town and we were behaving and so he is just a car guy himself. He said he would go after anyone squeeling their tires but as long as we were not purposely trying to make as much noise as possible he would leave us alone. Other cops have told me pretty much the same, although we know there are some folks that may not be so tolerant. With your pipes and bends in the car you may be alright but if you short shift and idle abit it is not so obnoxious to the stuffed shirts. I must admit though that it nice to have the electric switch to quiet the car down when I run out of nerve.-Jim
