You only need one set of points to run so if you would put a piece of cardboard between one of the contacts and set the dwell to 30*.Repeat by blocking the other set. i believe total dwell (both sets running) should be 34*.

Do you mean dual point?

Yes you can, but honestly I've forgotten how.

Seems we used to block one set of points with a match book cover to keep them apart, then adjust one set, then block the other with the match book cover and do the other set.

TOO many years ago, and I suffer CRS. Chuck

We pulled an accel dual point unit last week. It had a bullet connector that allowed you to isolate one set of points to set dwell independently. Look for something similar...

Donald wins the prize (as the first correct answer).

HEY, wait a minute......

I was close to being first.

Seriously, haven't fooled with a dual point for decades, but I remember the matchbook trick.

BTW, coming down to Pine Ridge next weekend for a whirlwind trip.

Flying into Tampa Sat. at about 9 AM. Then, drive to the model home to meet with the decorator to choose "colors". We have an appointment at 11 AM.

That'll take???, as Mrs. Chuck will be doing the pickin'. We might have to make some side trips to look at cabinets, flooring, etc.

Staying at Mo and Clarire's house. Probably going over to the Citrus County Cruisers deal on Saturday night. We'll be hanging around Sunday, then have an appointment with the builder on Monday..then we fly back to Baltimore Monday evening.

Amazing that they're asking us to pick colors, counter tops, etc., because they haven't even put a shovel in the ground to start building the house yet.

Target date for the house? April or May of 2008.

"Fred" the Gopher Tortoise who resides on my property must be relocated before we do anything. Chuck

Chuck,

OK, you get the second "1st prize".

Don't quite understand the "picking out" the interior items so soon in the process, but each builder is different. Maybe you want a long lead time item, such as a "Gopher Tortoise" topped counter?

I know, bad boy! We have our resident tortoise as well. Moved him before building, didn't like the new abode, and made himself happy closer to the our home. See him quite often, but swear he shrunk (maybe an offspring took over?).

We are still working on wmf62's Vette, (and will be for a while). Since you will be in the area, give me a call, and we can meet.

Yes, "Fred" was discovered burrowing on my lot, and as you know, "Fred" must be relocated. I'm told his burrow is marked with red flags.

As far as I'm concerned, they can leave Fred alone.

We have lots of critters up here where I live now....LOTS of deer, raccoons, possums, ground hogs, foxes, rabbits, and an occasional black bear, but I believe it's Florida law that Gopher Tortoises must be relocated as they're a protected species.

I'll visit Fred when I'm there. Maybe he'll come back after we build.

I too don't understand the "rush" to pick interior colors, counter tops, etc. but I "go with the flow".

I'll give you a call. Still have your cell # stored in my phone.

If it's a GM distributor, the individual point settings should be done at 29* to get the total dwell of 34*.

Back in the day- early Seventies -we would set the points dwell at 26* to get a few hundred more rpm.

John is correct (as usual) 29 +/- 1 and total of 34 +/- 1. I use a popsickle stick between the contacts of one, set the other and use the stick in the other contacts and set the second point.

The +/- 1 is important, my 61 runs poorly if not at the +/- 1 tolerance.

I did recently cheat and use a dual point equivalent PETRINOX modual. But, I keep the point set in the tool box if the PETRINOX modual fails or the terrorist set off an EMP blast and zap all of our integrated circuits.

The 61 will run, the PBJ (B-25) will also run...it has magnetos.

I have dual point distributor and I set the dwell on each set to 29 +/- 1 and get a 34 reading on the combined. The only reason I have match books in the tool box.

Actually you want more dwell for high RPM, not less (for increased saturation of the coil due to the lessening amount of time the points are closed at high RPM). That is why I agreed with 30 degrees on each set of points.

However, the points will last a lot longer at 26 degrees.

Well, we did the short dwell to allow more rpm to point bounce. Well that was 30+ years ago. I could have it wrong, haven't used dual points in 30+ years.
