I am within two days of buying this engine, need to know exactly what i am buying. Price,150 bucks ,condition, used with a flat cam lobe.
Heads..marking are thus// GM 1 with a M inside a square next to it. saw an '87" somewhere marked by the rockers as well. numbers are 3782461 with Canada stamped below the numbers. double humps, with the hump ends being aligned with the ourside of the "raised boss". Anyway to know if these are 202 heads just from a visual? as far as i can figure ,they are 1964 thru 1966,327 heads,no accessory holes,160/62 cc port volume. 62 cc.chambers .Are these decent heads and are they .alone, worth the asking price of the engine?
Engine..GM 3970010,maked back, above the bell housing. M4 is also cast on the flat next over . 010 is also marked inside/back where the bell housing would cover it. Here is the maybe,"killer" of the deal...stamp pad is stamped.. K01 22 TAXI. Engine runs fine, has a miss due to flat cm lobe, just taken out of friends pickup truck, that he bought a while back. thanks. Oh, havent dropped the oil pan to see if its a 4 or 2 bolt main.

Might be wrong but think you have to pull the head to check valve size

Default $150 is good

IMO - If the block and heads aren't cracked, $150 is an OK deal. The block is a good cast number. You might want to check under the timing chain cover for "010" and "020" cast in the block. These will have higher nickle/tin content and are desirable. I think the valve size would have to be visually inspected for the size of the valves. 2.02 or 1.94 is still OK if not cracked.

Those are Canadian castings, engine was built at McKinnon Industries (now St. Catherines Engine Plant); heads have to come off to check for valve sizes. Block is a '69-'79 350 (casting date?), heads were used from '62-'68 on 327's, not original to that block.

The block was used from 69-80 as a 302, 327 and 350 cu in. Most likely a 350 cu in but you would have to pull it down to tell for sure.

The 461 heads would need a visual to tell if they were 2.02 size heads.

If the heads are not cracked, they alone are worth the $150.

best way to tell if heads are 202 vrs 194 is measure the valves, if they are still in the heads, if they measure under 2 in, 194, over 2 in, 202. billy
