Default shifter adjustment

Enthusiasts, I have 67 4spd and asked earlier about the gage that goes into the shifter slot and when the linkage is adjusted. Thanks for whoever sent the measurements for the gage. After crawling around under the vehicle, I see it's almost impossible to get the gage in the slot from below (I haven't tried from above). It seems that when the leaver's in neutral, the rods are pretty firm and they might be able to be adjusted without the gage? Also when I purchased the vehicle, the rods were (and are) in the lower holes (for faster shifting) but wonder if for everyday driving they might be better in the "normal holes?" Any thoughts or comments? steve jarrett

Default Shifter

Steve: I adjust the shifter by removing rod end(s) which go into the transmission, and place the tool into the shifter. Adjust the rods by shortening or lengthing the pivot on the rod. Try a few different settings to see which works best. Unless your car has side exhaust, you may have to remove the driver side exhaust to gain access to the shifter. Where in Tampa do you live? I have more than a few manuals outlining the adjustment. You are welcome to them. Jerry
