Default tach question

Hello All,
I have a 63 that has a 64 or later guages/dash in it. The tach has never worked since I have had it, I thought it was the cable.
I Bought a new cable for a 63, hooked it to the dist, but can't get it to go in the back of the tach.

My question, Is a 63 tach a different cable then all the other years? Do I need to get a different cable based on what year the tach is? Can't seem to figure this out. Thanks in advance...

The tach cable is functionally the same. Before you hook the cable up, make sure the tach gear shaft is turning in your distributor by starting the engine and then feeling with your finger the rotation of the shaft.

I tested it when with the dist and the other end did turn, so I do know it's working to that point. I just can't get the other end to go into the tach.

The old one may have broken off in the tach. That was a good thought. Any ideas on how to get that out? I can just get my hand up under the dash to the tach as it is. Can the tach come out of the dash without taking the whole dash out?

Thanks again...

I'm pretty sure you will have to drop your column and pull the entire instrument cluster.

Unless you have the arms and hands of a three year old.

I may train my grandaughter to change the inst. panel light bulbs.
