Default reusing exhaust

I finally have the body off the 62 I am restoring. The frame is in great ship and, other than normal rust on the exhaust system, it is very solid as well. Since this is going to be a driver, I don't see any reason to replace the exhaust. Is there any problem with leaving it in place while I sandblast the frame? Has anyone reused/repainted an exhaust system before? If so, what should I use?

Thanks,
Doug

Yes, there is a good reason, the stock type only last for a few years before rusting out. Even if the outside looks good, the inside can be shot. Save time, money and aggrevation down the road, put in a stainless system now that the body if off the frame. You won't regret it. I did this with my '62. I must have replaced the system 6 times over 30+ years and with the stainless I don't expect to ever have to replace it again

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have looked at the SS systems. I would dearly love to install one since it would be a lifetime purchase, but I may have to use the money elsewhere in the project...

Depends on how you plan to use the car (or how the car was used). I took the orginal exhaust off my 66 just 5 years ago, and not because of rust perforation. The metal at the joints had become work hardened and would not seal any more. My car has seen a salted road just once since new, and is driven less than 2000 miles per year. The aluminized exhaust I put on 5 years ago still looks brand new!

That said, aluminized exhaust is so cheap for a complete system, I cannot imagine why you would not replace it (vs re-use your original). If I were to go stainless, it would be for show....
