It's a 1963 that is updated for racing. I do not know the year of the springs other than I know they were changed to a higher spring rate for racing. The partial tape tag on one spring was the EA. This is for the front springs. The rear has the 7 leaf spring.
Anyone know the spring rate for GM #3832518 tag #EA?
I'm sure glad you asked that question otherwise my search would have been useless.
I was taking apart my front end for a rebuild and found the same tag attached along with the dealership tag were it was serviced in Escondido,Ca. I love finding this stuff!
Here is a question for everyone. I had purchased some stock replacement coil springs and found the above springs installed. Should I just clean up the springs installed? Are they worth reinstalling? I dont' know how old they are. They are more than 20 years old (based upon the paperwork discovered and the location of the car over the years), and I do not know the mileage on the springs.
I am inclined to keep them in there, though. What was the original spring rate (64, originally FI car, convertible) 440#?
If your ride hight is good (it should be slightly lower than standard springs) and you have the matching 7 leaf rear spring and larger front bar, I'd leave well enough alone. As I'd said back in July, they handle very nicely for a 40 year old car with that set up.
Sorry, I can't answer the rate question on the stock springs.
The original '64-'67 small-block variable-rate progressively-wound front spring (#3851100) had a rate of 195#/inch at their design load of 1340# and loaded height of 9.98".
