This may be a dumb question, but the gas stations in the Dallas area have gone to the low emission gas pump. It won't work unless there is a complete seal at the filler opening. Therefore, it won't work on my 67 coupe. How have you overcome this problem? Thanks.
I have the same problem with my 40 Ford. If they are the same pumps as the ones we have had in California for years, try holding back on the spring loaded seal with one hand so it doesn't seal. It works on our pumps.
When I go to shows I use the correct gas cap..... When I go to fill up I use a modified gas cap with a filler hole in it. Got it from Jegs about 4 years ago, think I paid around $20 for it....

I found mine at Advance Auto Parts when I was tired of trying to hold the sleeve back so that the pump would run. There's something in my tank that won't allow a nozzle to go in very far. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Do you have a part number or remember the name of the manufacture? I tried looking around on Jegs and Summit but didn't see anything.

When I run into a gas station with those filler nozzles I jam the collabsible rubber neck against the side of the gas tank filler neck and force it back. That works. I also wrap a towel around the filler area so I don't get gas spray on the paint. They do tend to shut off on you and you can get a splash when you start it back up.
He's unavailable. He's home eating Chilean Sea Bass. A fish on the "bug lovers" watch list. Heard today he had it on the menu at a recent event he was giving.

He's also managing the zinc mine he and his family own in his home state that has a record of both making money and discharging waters over permit discharge effluent limitations. How cool is that.....

Bought one at Advance Auto for my wife's Buick LaCrosse so that she wouldn't have to remove the standard cap & hang it from the gas door when filling up; cost $9.95. It was different than the one on her (previous) '96 Buick Regal, but the Regal cap fits my '96 IMP/SS
When she went to New Jersey, the pump jockey INSISTED - by law, I guess - on pumping gas...and BROKE it! She didn't know it was broken until she went to fill up upon returning to Pennsylvania With my (BELIEVE ME ) LIMITED mechanical skills, I was able to get it back together...and it works!
I would be very interested in this as well. The PermaCap is not for C2's, their application guide states it is only for newer cars with screw type caps.
Cruz:
Yes, it is NJ law, drivers are too stupid to pump our own gas, only attendants. Actually not a bad law when raining like crazy or cold. When you pull up in a C2, most attendants seem more than eager to pass me the nozzle.

That's the one I had to use. I think I've seen other manufacturers, but I don't remember the names.
If its the kind with the compressible rubber boot you can do what a couple of the others have said and just use your other hand to compress it or use the side of the gas tank filler neck to compress it to make the switch in the nozzle think its sealed.
1/4 turn to latch, outside edge grip? I don't know if the diameter is the same, but that sounds like the gas cap used on GM trucks in at least the '47-'72 period, possibly even further each way. Maybe something could found under that application. There are some screwball parts interchanges in the Corvette line.
