Default 1967 Engine codes

Hello, I am new the site and needing some help. Looking at a '67, block number is T0917IT. I realize it is a HD block but there are numbers that follow: T0917IT 6101472, I am not familiar with seeing the number after the IT. If anyone could point me in the right direction as to there meaning or better yet if someone knows what they mean. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance
Steve

Steve,

The second set of numbers is a stamp which notes part of the vin preceded by a digit which correlates to the vehicle year.

In this case, 6101472 would be a 1966 vehicle with last six digits of the vin of 101472.

Do you have the blocks casting # and casting date? There located on the flange where the bellhousing attaches.

I am looking at those today and I will post them. I was mainly concerned what year the block is and it sounds like it is a '66 not a '67.

The date casting is by the starter (upside down).

What is an "IT" suffix??? The 66 only had IP and IL I thought. Or did the automagic for the 66 BB use a different suffix like "IT"???

"IT" = L88

"IQ" = L36 powerglide or "IR" for the K19 "California special".

OK the correct #'s are T0917IP 6101472 and the block casting is 3869942. The casting, on the back of the block, High Perf Truck/Pass. Looking at the "black book" and replies, it looks like a '66 SHP 427.

Has anyone heard of a late year block installed into a next year car, from the factory?

In this case, block Sept 1966, car 1967?

The car has a daytona body, filler neck, radio delete, heater delete. etc.

The VIN plate, under the glove box area, is not there.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

The VIN plate is missing is the trim tag missing as well? It should be under the glove compartment as well. If both are missing I would be concerned. If you are buying the car, just buy what you see, parts that do not appear to have left the factory together, and accept it as a driver.

Also, I would check the frame for the VIN and run that through my local PD to ensure there is no "ownership problems" with the seller.

FWIW, Joe

OK, but this is a 66 block. No L88's produced that year. This has got to be a restamp doesn't it???

Steve

PS Just read his next post. It is an IP block. Now it makes sense.

The only tag, under the glove box, is a California DMV tag:

CA DMV 956 CA
Control #11216

That's a legit California state-issued VIN (assuming those same numbers are on the title); car was probably stolen at some point and the VIN and trim tags were removed before it was recovered.

Byt you might want to check out the body, frame and interior differences to make sure it isnt a '66.

That would be September 1965.
