Default Need help with side pipe insulators

I just installed a set of new side pipe insulators on my 67 Vert and used epoxy to bond then to the covers and as soon as they got real hot the epoxy let go.

Can any of you guys help me with a suggestion as to what to use to bond these new insulators to the aluminum covers????

Thanks
Steve

What type of epoxy did you use? Did you use a two part epoxy? Did you use equal parts if it was a two part system? Usually, most epoxies take at least 24 hours to totally cure. I reglued my insulators a few months back and I used PC-7 two part epoxy. It took about 24-28 hours to totally harden.

Trophy Blue, Thanks for the suggestion. I will look for this epoxy and give it a try. I simply used what I had in the cabinet and can not tell you what it was as I used it all. I did let it sit for about a month befor I reattached the side pipes so cure time should not have been an issue.

I would make sure you roughed up the backside of the covers and the insulators for good adhesion. I used JB Weld over a year ago and they are holding fine.

Thanks Rick, I just today roughed up the parts and used JB Weld as that was the highest temp rated material I could find. Glad to hear it works. Thanks for you response.
