This was removed this from my friends 69 Z/28. I helped him install the carb a few years ago after it was rebuilt.
He got stranded the other day and had to have it towed home.
This is what we found in the primary filter.
I say it had to be there from when the carb. was rebuilt.
He thinks it got there from the fuel tank.
What do you guys think?
How could such large pieces of that bug get past the sock on the fuel pick up? Then they would have to make it through the fuel pump.
I think you're correct. Now that he has the bugs out of it, he should be fine.
Mud Daubers and wasps love lengths of small diameter tubing as it saves them lots of work. If you keep lengths of tubing stored in the garage its a good idea to blow them out before using.
ive seen lots of stuff in fuel systems/filters, but thats ive ever seen those little critters!! the scientific name for them i think is fuelasticas gremlinus, more commonly known as fuel line gremlins. seriously, for those to get all the way to those little sintered bronze filters he must have no inline filter. i would install a full size inline filter somewhere. those little filters are good for a last line of defense but it takes practically nothing to plug them up.
