Default Speedo needle bouncing

Just had my gauge cluster rebuilt. Now my speedometer needle is fine one moment and the next bounces erradically. Any ideas?

I have the same thing happen, but only when it is very cold. Usually indicates binding in the cable.

Make sure the cable is lubed.

Assuming that it was a good re-build, more often than not a bouncing needle means an old or worn or under lubed cable. Just don't over-lube it, because that can gum up the works as well.

Mine did this, and it was actually due to a jammed odometer. The speedo gear was trying to roll the odometer forward, it wasn't rolling, and eventually the speedo would 'snap' into the next gear-- making a clicking sound and making the needle bounce.
