Hi Guys, Have a 63 -327 / 340 hp adjusted the solid lifters the other day because they started to sound overly noisy.After adjustment not much improvement .Anyone have any sugestions.They were adjusted to 30 thousants.Bob W
30 thousands is a pretty wide (and correct) gap, and the valves will be somewhat loud.
the only other thing to check for is worn tips on your rocker arms/valve stems/pushrods; and to do this you'll have to take each rocker arm off and inspect the pushrod and valve stem contact points.

The 340 hp or 097 cam adjusts at .012/.018. Not .030/.030.

yep, if he has the original cam, you're right; i just 'assumed' he had the correct gap #.
The original "097" Duntov was used from late 1956 to 1963 and designed for 0.012-0.018-inch clearance with 1.5:1 rocker arms. But in 1963 the intake clearance was revised to 0.008-inch and this change was also recommended in Corvette News in the late 1950's for "weekend competition events";
"30-30" solid-lifter cam (PN 3849346) used in 1967-69 Camaro 302/290hp Z/28 engines, as well as in 1964-65 Corvette L-76 327/365hp and L-84 327/375hp (F.I.) engines
Just installed that cam , sourced from Speed-Pro, and they list clearances of .012 and .018. The noise comment reminds me of a time when I didn't do my own work. Had a "good" mechanic do my valves and he had two blades of the feeler stuck together! Yep, louder than 'ell. Bob
