Default Clock Light?

Does anybody have any idea what would cause the clock light to turn on when the headlights are turned off? The clock only works sometimes, but the light I think is draining the battery, is this possible after about 10 days a staying on? I was just wondering what I should look for before I dig into it.

The clock lights are wired into the same circuit at the rest of the gauge illumination lights (grey wires on my '64). They should be on in both the first and second headlight switch detent position, first being parking lights, second being headlights. If the wiring, 2 bulbs, and sockets that light up the clock check out ok, the issue may be in your headlight switch.

And yes, a lit bulb will drain your battery.

Trace the gray bulb wires from the clock back into the harness and look for a chafe or pinch; all the illumination bulbs (gray wires) are fed from one single splice in the harness, so if only your clock light(s) are on with the headlight switch off, the problem is between the main splice and the clock.
