Default torque values

I can't find the following in my publications.... C2

please advise torque values for front spindle assemblies (the three bolts which hold the steering knuckle/spindle/brake bracket together).

also, for the rear cosssmember bar. I find two very different values in publications.

The top anchor bolt is 75 ft-lbs, and the two steering arm nuts are 55-65 ft-lbs. The two diff crossmember-to-frame bolts (through the cushions) are 55-65 ft-lbs.

thanks! If I recall the assembly manual states lower for the crossmember but the chassis assembly manual agrees with you......

The torque on the crossmember-to-frame bolts was shown correctly in the '63 A.I.M. (55-65 ft-lbs.), was shown in error (20-30 ft-lbs.) in the '64 and '65 A.I.M., and was corrected back to 55-65 in the '66 and '67 A.I.M.'s.

thanks...how about the torque value for the crank/harmonic balancer bolt.

Also, a description or picture of how the safety wire is threaded?

The balancer bolt is 60-90 ft-lbs.; no need to safety-wire it, although the service replacement balancer bolt has always had the hole in it - it was never safety-wired in production.

thanks for the information...the balancer was tough to pull on. I'm going to stay at the low end of the range due to the hardness of the crank, and the "feel" that I'm getting between the threads. Will also get a new correct bolt and see if that changes.
