thanks,
that would be the solid lifter engine, right? now I'm really stumped...
the block in the 61 is a 519 block, I pulled it apart today, domed pistons, solid lifters, but it is dated j15 9, and the car was built NOv 22 60, ..#3072, is there any chance it is original? stamped fo224cf?
I was told it was way too early, but seeing the solid lifters and all...?

I have the 270HP/dual quad solid lifter motor and yes it has the hi-redline tach (the same as the FI engine I believe). The date on your motor does seem early but who knows. Worth checking your VIN using Noland Adams "Corvette Technical & Restoration Guide, Vol 1" as sometimes they did some strange things on the assembly line.

The only use of the "CF" suffix in that time frame was a '58-'61 283/230hp manual transmission in full-size passenger cars - yours is from a '60; the "CF" suffix was never used in a Corvette. With solid lifters and domed pistons, it's been rebuilt at least once since 1959.
Wally
what's the redline for a solid lifter FI tach?
Bill
The same as a 270.
Personally I didn`t think it was a 315 car. That would require explaining a few unique things that distinguish a 270 from the 315. And also very few 315`s were built compared to 270`s........
