Can somebody tell me the finish on the original antenna mast? I'm replacing my aftermarket with a reproduction and the bezel and nut on the repro are chrome, but the mast is stainless with a satin finish. Is this correct?......Thanks,Gary
Clamp the last mast section in some brass faced jaws. Place a layer of tape over the tip. Get a deep 1/4 inch socket and CAREFULLY twist and break the tip loose. Rotate back and forth while slightly cocking the socket and pulling on it. (sounds weird but it's pretty easy) The tip will slip off.
You can try to press it on your original with some Loc-tite if your brave. I tap the tip and the mast with a #4-40 thread and thread it on. Never had one come loose.
Of course the recommended practice is to use a rebuilt original from a respected restorer.
