Once again, I am depending on the expertise of the members of this forum to assist me with a project. This fall/winter, I want to replace all of the glass and all of the mechanicals inside of the doors. My goal is to minimize some rattles. Plus some of the glass looks a little shabby. Whenever I do I project, I try to anticipate all of my parts needs and order everything at once. I always forget something, usually several things. Last winter with my wiring project, I encountered several situations that resulted in me placing multiple orders. I'm sure that I spent at least an extra $100 in shipping costs. Now to my question-does anyone have a comprehensive listing of every part that would be needed to replace the inside door/window mechanism for a 63 roadster. Also is there a specific a vendor that offers the best parts? The outside stuff, panels/cranks, etc are new. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Hi Ren,
Be sure to check out Dave Z's door article on BarryK's website for details on the remove/replace procedure. This is based on a Coupe door but I have to believe there is a lot of good data that applies to convertibles as well.
Jeff,
Good to hear from you again. You were extremely helpful with my wiring project. I already have the stuff that you mentioned bookmarked. I'm installing a new computer in a few days. If I loose my bookmarks, it'll be easy to reconstruct. Looking forward to a few more weeks of cruising, but our weather has a tendancy to fade fast. I hate winter!!!
Ren
Thanks, I'm glad you got past most of your wiring issues.
I need to get into the doors of my 65, but I don't have the energy for another battle right now, so I'm putting it off until I'm in the mood to do it. Living in the Houston area, we don't really park our cars for any length of time until warmer weather comes.
Consequently major car projects are more related to when I have the motivation - of which I have none while being overwhelmed with projects.
My 62 needs a brake job; my 56 Olds needs to be assembled (bare painted body shell on rolling, restored frame); the skylark needs A/C work; the vista cruiser needs a radiator rebuild and A/C work; and one of my daily drivers needs tires, a new seat cover, rebuilt steering rack, and a cooling system repair.
So, the doors on that 65 will be staying in one piece for a while
Owning these types of cars is almost like a job, only a job that you enjoy. I guess you will never be completely done. I'm doing stuff to my brakes next week. I'm converting from a single master cylinder drum system to a duel master cylinder system. Not really state of the art, but hopefully safer. During the summer I replaced the front coils, bushings and control arms. It made a huge differance in how the car handles. Now,it actually goes where I point it. It sounds like you have a nice collection. I have only one and for now that's enough. Somewhere down the road, I'd like to get a 64-65 442. Time will tell.
