Default Problem with heater box

When I last drove my car I had to have the defroster on due to the cool morning and fog. I turned the fan on high and out of the heater duct comes portions of the seal that is attached to the door for controlling the direction of the air flow. I know I have to pull the inside housing to do the repairs but does anyone make a replacement seal or door that I can slip into the old heater box? Or do I need to look for a used heater box that may have a good seal and door assembly? Anyone had to do anything like this before? Would appreciate hearing how you took care of the problem. Thanks.

You can get heater box seal kits from most of the vendors. It'll cost you about $25. Once you get the heater box out its an easy job.

I rebuilt the heater/AC box in my 65 last summer. I was pleasantly surprised that the seals for the diverter doors were die-cut from peel-and-stick rubber stock, making them extremely easy to install (once the extremely painful part of removing the box from the car was complete)

Thanks for the replies guys. I know the difficulty of getting the box out. I had to replace my heater core when I first got the car. It is a pain in the butt. I looked for the repair parts on LIC's website but didn't find anything. They didn't even show the diverter door in their schematic. Who sells the item, any idea? And what do they call it?

Steve, I purchased my kit from Corvette Central.

Here is the new door seal. It's precut and sticks to the door.

Bought mine from LICS.
If your car has factory A/C: Section 36, item #28 - complete A/C-Heater box gasket set, $50

If your car does not have factory A/C: Section 37, item #22- Heater box gasket set, $44

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I was finally smart enough to figure out what to look for on all the sites. Wide variation in prices. Paragon is $29.00; LIC is $44.00; Wilcox is $29.44; CC is $27.95; CA is $32.99; Davies is $26.95; Vettes of MI is $23.00 and Dr. Rebuild is $22.95. I guess I have my choice on which one I want to take a chance on. Thanks for all the help. It is appreciated.

Go with Doc Rebuild - his seal kits are dead-on.

John,

You are the second one to recommend Dr. Rebuild. Will go with his. It is the cheapest also. Not sure why but that's the way it is. Thanks for the input.

Zip Corvette has them for $25 (non-A/C), just make sure you do not buy the foreign made, they are truly junk. Zip's are made in U.S.A. http://www.zip-products.com/Zip/prod...5Fid=ZWS%2D478
