Default Getting cold

Now that winter is just around the corner here in the Ca. Sierra's where we live and we just got a dusting of snow this week , it's nice to have my accessories in our 55 Corvette. We do once in a while drive over the hill to Reno ( one hour) in our 55 to see friends or attend car shows.
My garage is not heated enough when temp's get below freezing at times so I keep the Carter engine heater and battery heater plugged in to aid starting the engine. We also carry the accessory winter wipers that work great and tire tracks just in case I get stuck.
Do you guys back East use the original engine heater to keep the engine water warm ( for quick starts) or even drive the Corvette in winter?
Yes! Believe it or not in the past some people did drive a Corvette in winter , I did in the 50's & 60's if the roads were clear!
Note- the battery heater accessory was a C2 item.Ok! sorry I drive my TF Corvettes

Pretty cool, original stuff Roy. In Indiana, you don't drive em in the winter unless the roads are dry and it's not really cold. Never much cared for the hard jolts when the temp was below freezing. When I was a kid, I drove my 69 through one of the biggest snow years in IN history! Ever try getting out of the snow drift by leaving it in 1st gear with the tires spinning, run around the back and push the car until it starts to run away and then jump back in and drive?

Back in the day, huh?

Once it gets cold and we have the first snow and salting of the roads, my Vette gets put to sleep for the winter....

I do an oil change before bedding her and lay plenty of mouse traps. I also put a heavy coating of wax on the chrome....

i was crossway on an icey road about 20 years ago. i did the same thing. put her in gear and pushed the car till she was straight hopped in and drove off. sometimes what looked like a bad idea worked like a charm!!!

I like your style, Roy!

I too have an unheated garage where the beast resides, it doesn't drop too far below freezing around here - not low enough to warrant a block heater, but enough to get frost on the windows from time to time. I'll snap some pictures of any winter driving I do, if it gets cold enough before the insurance runs out.

Unless I get the cheaper Collector plates on it, then it may be on the road all year long....

Roy,
It is getting cool here as you can see from the pic. Tonight will be ~36*F. My 1967 goes into commercial storage in two weeks. I do not drive it in snow and salt.

I do not need a block heater for the Corvette. I certainly have one in my daily driver (late model Impala) but really don't use it until the region of -10*F. Even then the car starts well without it. I do use 0W-30 oil.

This is an old photograph of my daily driver back in the eighties.. I would drive it in any kind of weather. I would do dough nuts every time it would snow.
