Default 1960 Windshield Frame Question

I have a little plate on the bottom of one side of my windshield frame. My dad's 59 didn't have this. Anyone know what or why this is here, or what I should do? If install the windshield as it is, that plate will cause the windshield to be unlevel.

Thanks.

probably a 'patch' of a broken off ear of the windowshield's frame end. if so it can be sent off to one of the vendors (CC, Paragon, etc; maybe someone knows who does it for the vendors..) and repaired.

The plate is probably what was mentioned before. If your windshield frame shows no sign of a broken tab, and this was very common, it may be a shim added by a previous owner. Without seeing it first hand, I wouldn't know for sure. I have seen this done but it's not the best method of shimming the end of the windshield frame. The most common mistake people make when installing a new windshield is to push the frame ends in too far and squeeze everything together too tight. This will make the end of the assemebly look "raised up" where it meets the ends of the dash. If you loosen the phillips screws on the top of the frame end, you may be bale to push the frame end down toward the dash end. Just don't go too far or the windhsield will not be seated properly in the gasket. Don't be afraid to use the rubber shims if you can't push the frame end down far enough to close the gap. They were made for this reason by the General in the first place.

Enjoy your car!!
