I am going to look at a 62 soon and need some help. I've searched CF and found that the VIN tag is on the steering column underneath the hood. I also read that there are no trim tags until the 63 model year. Other than engine pad stamps, are there any other identifying codes or numbers on a 62? Is there a way to determine the original paint/interior color and optional equipment?
you can look for clues, like paint color on the dash with the pad removed or on the floor under teh carpet, tach redline, etc, but those are not guaranteers of anything.
You might be able to discover the original paint color with lots of sandpaper! or... if you remove the vertical board in the front of the trunk, there might be a good hint. They wrote the color the car was to be painted on that panel in some kind of green? waxy crayon. I've heard you can get a clue there.
All the vin will tell you is the build date.
