My stock body car runs 255 in the rear...I have 225 in front but could probably have gotten 245s if I has the right wheel....
Things that affect this are of course wheel offset and to a smaller degree wheel width, I measured about 10.5 inches in my wheel wells one was a bit less than the other, then I found the widest tire I figured would fit at 9.9 inches which left a small amount of room for variations and camber tilt. I then ordered a wheel that places the tire centered in the space I had.
Of course if you flair the body or run a lower profile or even adjust the body to frame height you might get a bit more but then you have to find a popularly sized tire to match.
This link shows front and rear clearances, sorry about the dirty car and cramped quarters for the photos.

There is LOTS of information in the FAQ thread (in the "stickies" at the top of the list of threads). Suggest you look there. Lots in the archives, too. Use an "advanced search" to get a look at older threads. Look under both wheels and tires...
In the end, you will have to accept some compromises, making at leastminor modifications, if you want to run a section width larger than 225 (maybe even 215), on a wheel wider than 6".
Have fun though. Some of the guys (like Darren) here have had some fantastic results.

If you want to run a wide tire on stock suspension you will have to go with a smaller diameter than stock or you will definitely rub the front fender when turning and possibly frame. Rear, you will need to check the park brake cable bracket, rear spring, and of course body. But there are lots of threads on this so check the search feature and sticky at the top. Have fun!
