Installing everything new.......calipers, pads, brake lines. I have yet to add fluid to the system. The back are fine, the pads have slight drake when I spin the rotors.
After I installed the front caipers and pads, I cannot spin the rotors by hand. The rotors are new American made rotors.
Is this normal? I have never experienced this on other gm cars. Like I said the backs are fine, this is just on both fronts
NOT normal....Pull the pads and see if that helps. If not, check to see if the mounting bolts are too long; it is possible that they can jam the rotor!
It's normal for some pad drag on the rotor. There are lightweight springs behind the caliper pistons that push the pistons and pads against the rotor.
When you say you can't "spin" the rotor by hand, do you mean you just can't turn it or you can rotate it and the rotor stops as soon as you take your hand off? The latter condition is normal.
If the rear rotors will coast after you spin them, your caliper piston(s) are probably frozen.
Calipers are all new. Rear calipers only turn when I turn them. Front do not move at all. I will check the bolts to make sure they are not bottomed out against the rotor and post later
About 4 yrs. ago I had a brand NEW set of front calipers from a supplier advertising in the NCRS Driveline (full page ad, free shipping) and all the pistons were frozen in the bore. I couldn't even get the pads in. Sent them back, refunded money, bought new ones from VB.
Just went and checked. The passenger side spins easier then the driver side. I am just using the wheel studs and not getting a lot of leverage.
I am able to spin the driver side it just feels like too much drag to me. Looking at both sides of the front. The driver side outboard pad has very little to no clearance between the pad and the caliper, the passenger side is more centered.
