Dave,
Thanks for the pics of the electronics. Mine doesn't look like that. It looks like a clean version of rotor on top and condenser and points although I didn't pull off the rotor due to light and time constraints.
By the way checked out your pictures and love the house and the vettes!!
Don
P.S. If I ever get around to solving this problem, I'll take the time to add some pics of my 65 Roadster. Is is really a sweet looking vette.

Looks like I start all over!!
Before i bought a power bleeder .I had my wife pumping the brakes while i bleed them She was pushing in on the clutch

Well just to update all of the forum members that tried to solve this problem, I have pretty much tried everything that I am capable of doing and now think it is time to go to a professional. Anyone that can recommend someone in South Orange county or North San Diego county, CA who knows old vette electricals, please let me know. The courtesy lights I would love to see work buy obviously the brake lights are the most important so I can again drive this safely!!!

What other options does your car have besides Powerglide? (assumed from neutral safety switch comment)

I sent you an email

Sorry, that was a ballast resistor not the neutral safety switch. Mine is a 4 speed, sent you an email.

Don,
Will send you a PM and get a real e-mail address for you that I can send you some attachments. I have some schematics that are my own which make it easier for me to troubleshoot this stuff because they isolate the wiring by systems. Maybe if you see it in a different format rather than with all the rest of the wires in the car you might find something that lets you figure this. Wish I were going towards San Diego this weekend so I could stop by and see this in person.

Gary,
Glad to see you made it back to town safe and sound. Since that last post I have had some great input from some of the members and it seems like the main dash harness has a short in it. I have decided to replace the harnees myself and see what happens. I have received multiple links to aid me in removing the instrument cluster etc. so I feel confident that I can do it ( besides how great it would feel to solve this!!). While I have the instrument cluster off I can clean all of the instruments etc. I also have a radio and clock that do not work but are not connected so I guess I will find out with the new harness whether they do or not. If you are going towards San Diego next weekend that is when all the work will be going on. The parts should be here late next week. Again thanks for checking back. I'll keep you posted. I'll send you a message with my email address for future reference.

Piper,
Yes I did get that info off of one of John Z's cluster removal articles but thanks for the reminder. I actually just got the new wire harness for the dash but have to do a brake job first so I'll post the progress next week and hopefully I'll have the brake lights etc before Thanskgiving.

Sorry guys, got sidetracked putting new calipers in and in that fiasco broke one of the blocks (LR) and had to put a non stock replacement in that at least works until a replacement part gets here. I also noticed my ebrake cable was stretched out so had to replace that. Now I have brakes so I can move the car around the garage to give me max clearance for the wire harness job. I do have the harness but just lost a dispute with the wife on whether to put up the Xmas lights outside today or start on the wire harness. Since I have been in the garage for the last 3 days, she won today. I will definitley keep you all posted when I get the harness in and hopefully have brake lights, courtesy lights and maybe even radio and clock. ( they have been disconnected since I bought the car) Anyway thanks for checking in and I will definitely get back to you all. My biggest fear of this job is pulling out the steering column . Any quick advice on what not to do? Also my 65 has what has to be aftermarket speakers ( two sitting side by side) with two connectors on each. Any idea on how to wire them. I bought new speaker wire connectors think they are for the one speaker original.

10-minute job. Loosen the 12-point bolt on the top end of the rag joint, remove the screw on the large clamp that holds the column jacket to the bracket on the firewall, remove the two screws that hold the escutcheon to the bottom of the cluster, separate the connector between the turn signal harness on the column and the instrument panel harness, remove the two nuts on the U-bolt under the dash, and pull it out.
