Default Original brake caliper casting & date #'s for '65

Anyone have a list of '65 brake caliper casting #'s and date codes?

I would like to know if I still have the original brake calipers on my car. I'm replacing the calipers due to the bleeders leaking. I tried new bleeders, I tried new bleeders from G.M. for a 1965 Corvette, and most still leak. I searched the posts and found other peaple with the same problem, but no fix. i
If the calipers are factory parts I will have them rebuilt rather than replace them. I'm not sure that a rebuild will address the leaking bleeder problem. My Coupe was built Nov-7-64 and these are the #'s off my calipers, some numbers were hard to read.

Rear drivers side Delco Moraine R1 5473807 1056

Rear pass side Delco Moraine 2 546905 77/

Front drivers side Delco Moraine 5473798 2311

Front pass side Delco Moraine 1D 5452273 1011

calipers are NOT date coded, those extra numbers don`t mean a thing...for 1965 your casting numbers should all start with #546

Thanks: looks like only one may be orginal. I guess I'll go for a set of over the counter '65 to '82 service replacement calipers. Dave

It may be a #546 but it`s doubtful it`s an original.....Lonestar can fix you up with a sleeved set of #546 calipers.....their price is right but the shipping and return shipping of the cores will kill you

redetracr: Where is Lonestar located do you have phone # or web site? Did you have to wait long to get yours? I need to get the car back on the road before the snow starts to fly, down to 0 C the last couple of nights. Are the front & rear calipers the same? I would like to know if the set on the car are a matched set. What is the difference between first generation caliper and the newer replacements?

Lonestar won't deal with individuals. They will do your work only through one of their dealers.

I had my original '65 brake calipers rebuilt through Vette Brakes in Florida. They did a nice job. They converted these first series calipers to second series. You can't tell by looking at them from the outside, but it should improve performance/leaks.

I realize this is an old post but I also have replacement caliper # 5473807 and rear rubber brake lines will not fit. This is for a 68 did they change to larger brake lines because fittings in caliper are much smaller. Thanks Phil

To start with, 5473807 is a rear caliper, and the rear hoses do not connect directly to the caliper. The rear hoses are installed at the pivot point of the trailing arm. The hose connects to a short steel line, that runs the length of the trailing arm, and the steel line then attaches to the caliper.

As an FYI, the 5473807 is a left rear 73-82 casting. The correct casting numbers for a 68 are 5452270 right front, 5452273 left front, 5452281 left rear and 5452284 right rear. It doesn't make any difference though, as all 65-82 calipers are interchangeable, and all take the same size hose (front) and steel line (rear).
